Yet another returned volunteer from Batangala (88/9). I was checking out the Project site to see if they had any more news on the effects of the Tsunami and found a link to Batangala! It looks like the food hadn't improved much.
I revisited in June 93 and must have met your fore-volunteers. It sounded like there were many tales told about us to those volunteers - which was interesting as we met out predecessors and found out the truth about their year! - oh the yarns we were told...they made them out to be ladies of the night!!
It looks like the NYSC is no longer used by PT.
One of the projects I was hoping to get news on was the Moratuwa Orphanage. Anyone know it? I thought Moratuwa had escaped the devastating affects of it but I've just got a Tearfund news letter that hightlights Moratuwa. The orphanage was next to the beach.
Anyway Drew - thanks for the memories. A nice trip down memory lane.

Alright Drew, thought I'd take a look at your new site - I must say I found it very interesting! - the hardships you put yourself through seem barely imaginable to me right now, but fair play to you dude, very well written and presented site on your year out in Sri Lanka.

Cant believe I found a sight on the web about the very place i used to live! Was a vol' 2 years after you (97/98).
Great to see the photo's of the place and the family (Jaysari's) an especially like your nick name for Mr Jaysari of 'smiler' - made me laugh out loud!
Good work for getting this on the net - A1 site.

Really interesting read, even if was only read initially as a diversion tactic from my exams I genuinely became intrigued not only by your perceptions but so much that I could relate to and in turn feel nostalgic about.
